54/200: The Five Year Engagement

This is one of the longest & funniest films I have ever seen. That’s not saying much because I think it’s also a sad movie but they pulled it off with the jokes & the Jason Segel-isms, also Emily Blunt’s British humor. I loved the movie. I loved the characters, the story was you know, a bit dragged. For a bit I really thought it was about Violet’s character having progress & Tom is downward spiral. I think you guys should see this. It’s so hilarious. Cynthia got weak with the jokes!

3/200: Margin Call

If I knew better I would really be obsessed about this movie, but somehow I got the message but not at all there. It’s always a thing especially when you watch it online, you multitask, so you don’t have focus on what you’re watching. Anyway, this ensemble is probably one of the best I’ve seen so far, great actors with great line of movies attached to their names. This movie is based on the financial plummet back in 2008, which is probably overlooked in terms of how badly people were affected after losing their jobs (the ones who worked at firms, corporations, etc.). I think they did a great job with telling a story to the viewers. I wish I understood more:(

2/200: We Bought A Zoo

I wanted to see because of ScarJo, Matt Damon & Elle Fanning. Little did I know it will turn out to be one of my favorite movies based on storyline, acting & overall package. It’s so good & touching, right from the first scene. I definitely enjoyed seeing the animals, and it kind of gave me a thrill watching it since they used real animals (duh, it’s about a zoo). But yes, hands down I recommend this to you guys. Matt Damon’s acting chops= worth seeing.

Movie Review: Mission Impossible IV

I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy it. This was quite a thrilling experience! I saw it with Abbey & Kim last Thursday night, I’m telling you of all the Holiday movies that were showing, we could’ve easily picked The Descendants (which I was head over heels about). But anywho, this choice I don’t regret at all. From start to finish I was really glad of how they put it together, some parts you would think are unnecessary but they do make it up on the scenes that are badass. My favorite has to be the Dubai Towers scene, which was as equally edge-of-your-seat thrilling as Unstoppable. I haven’t seen a Tom Cruise movie in ages! Plus next summer is gonna be awesome because he’s in Rock of Ages! I’m growing fond of action movies to be honest. I love Paula Patton too:)

Movie Review: Like Crazy

I would have watched another movie had it been for the song! Ingrid Michaelson’s version of Can’t Help Falling In Love. Long story short: girl likes boy, boy notices her, they became friends, hooked up, girl goes away as her visa expires & there you go. This movie is so heartbreaking, it explores a situation where you really can’t do anything about it & how people break rules or at least find a way to be together for at least one weekend. I did not like the ending though, they could’ve at least made a more positive conclusion than an open-ended one. I recommend this for you guys. Go see this!

Movie Review: Hugo 3D

So Cynthia & I went to see Hugo 3D last Friday, and we were 5 minutes late for the movie because we had too much fun trolling around & looking at shops at the flea market. Just to let y’all know this movie is visually flawless, there was not a minute (or even a second) where I thought it was going off track. I also haven’t used the adjective spectacular, so Imma use that for this, this movie is SPECTACULAR. Having said that, I believe this is probably one of the best movies that showed values about character & family, especially when adversity sets in. It also portrayed what’s inside a kid’s mind: curiosity & adventure. I actually haven’t seen a Scorsese masterpiece yet, except for when I turn on HBO & I take a look at Boardwalk Empire. But anyway, honestly speaking you all should take time to see this.

P.S: I’m in love with Chloe Moretz.

Movie Review: Footloose (2011)

This one is surprisingly good! Honestly I thought it was gonna be like an okay remake but it turned out to be really fantastic. The storyline is supposedly from the original 1984 film, but the director definitely worked his magic in making it that “next generation” type of reboot. I think the 2 lead actors were just amazing, plus there’s the best friend who actually stole the show when they were teaching him how to dance! That was legit. Me & Cynthia were loud at the theatre because there was such a serious mood & it’s supposed to be a fun movie! I wanted more dancing, because I saw a lot of drama & dialogues which were already established at the beginning. It also made me want to dance again, after such a long time of bumming around. Definitely inspiring & entertaining!

Movie Review: The Kids Are All Right

I wanted to see this last summer when it came out but I never really had the chance. I finally did borrow a copy from the library & I watched it this afternoon.

I thought it was, as the Rotten Tomatoes rating would give it “CERTIFIED FRESH”. I mean, the story is pretty much relative to a lot of people because there is a big number of same sex couples in America, but this movie has a lot of dopeness & real life drama. Love the cast as well. I think I have a weird man crush thing for Mark Ruffalo now. Eeeeek. Anyway, I say this was a great movie & y’all need to watch.

Double Movie Review: Beastly/Jumping The Broom

So, here goes the streak for my chick flick viewing again.

Beastly is the modern retelling of the Disney classic, “Beauty & The Beast”. It seemed to me that they were not trying to do a realistic movie, based on the whole witch plot against Kyle. I really really liked Vanessa Hudgens in this, sometimes I underrate her because my mind always flashes back to her High School Musical days but this movie changed that. She’s one to watch out for. The movie had its twists & turns, which I found entertaining & uplifting for some parts.

Jumping The Broom is about a couple who’s about to get married, only to find out their wedding day ends up a disaster after both their families try to outwit each other’s values & secrets. On top of that, the American-African tradition of jumping over a broom after they say their vows is brought up the groom’s mother. I always love me some wedding comedy flicks, they’re just so fun to watch! Dysfunctional families are always a win for me too, I mean it’s real life. The movie was slow at first but oh man, there’s that very unexpected scene where my jaw literally like dropped, probably cause I was enjoying it already & I never saw that coming. I recommend this if you’re having a bad day.

Movie Review: Drive

The pink font is very misleading, so beware you guys. That’s what I thought at least. Should have seen Moneyball or Shark Night instead maybe?

Now to the movie, there was so much to love about it that I chose not to love it. Understand? No? Okay the first part was actually genius! I have never seen a film like this. But then me & Cynthia were thinking “where the heck is this going?”, there were no dialogues even. What happened after the first 30 minutes was just too rad for me, bloody mess as I would like to call it. My eyes were closed the entire time each one of them was killed, and what bothered me was how they were killed. His character is sane but there was another side that was borderline psychotic. It’s an R rated movie, no sex scenes though but very beautiful cast (Ryan Gosling, Christina Hendricks, Carey Mulligan). I discovered new music (and I loved it) but overall this movie was just too much for me, I DIDN’T LIKE IT. Just made my low tolerance for blood even worse.

Rotten Tomatoes gave it a 94%. I was like “WAIT, WHAT?” Hahahaha.

So I went to the movies yesterday & saw this. I”ll tell you, I was creeped out because this is a horror movie that could actually happen (not that it didn’t yet). I only wanted to see because of the cast, like seriously it’s the best ensemble in a movie so far this year.
Now to the movie, it started with Gwyneth’s character already jetlagged (she was on a trip from Hong Kong) & people all over the world getting symptoms of what seemed like SARS (I  was already making my conclusion), and as the movie progresses, each person shown w/ the symptoms actually dies, and little I knew it, the media & the CDC were all over it. One thing though: THEY DIDN’T KNOW WHAT KIND OF VIRUS WAS SPREADING. They were just making assumptions, and then the doctors were like, “We need to stop this before it becomes worldwide” which it already has. It was so contagious that even their behaviour were put to the test. I’m not even gonna spoil the rest for you guys. I like Steven Soderbergh’s approach to this movie, he’s a darn good director. Then they showed that very important scene by the end, it was all from a careless cause.

My review for One Day.

Summer is ending in a couple weeks we just had to see this yesterday with hopes of eating our feelings away. Well for some reason it didn’t bring us to tears BUT I’ll tell you like this: WHAT A BEAUTIFUL & DEPRESSING MOVIE. I wanted to read the book beforehand, I admit I don’t ever read books but this one got me considering. That tagline got me: “Twenty years, two people”.I loved that.

Now, to the movie. I kind of imagined a boring sequence of events but thankfully they did it year by year. It didn’t come off realistic to me cause I was thinking how could they just meet up every July 15th each year? That was kind of the point of the movie, however I was left wondering still. Anne Hathaway didn’t age at all even when 15 years passed already! But Jim Sturgess had alot of beard/gray hair changes which also worked. I felt like these 2 characters in the film struggled with not telling each other how they really felt, probably because they started off as friends & they didn’t want to ruin that special bond. By the end of the movie, the first scene played over again & as Krista & I were just imagining what was gonna happen, BOOM THERE IT WENT. IT HAPPENED ALL TOO QUICKLY:( I don’t wanna spoil it for you guys.

“Whatever happens tomorrow, we have today. I’ll always remember it”

I’ll say that even though a lot of critics bashed this, what matters is that I personally learned a lot out of this movie. I don’t ever wanna go through what they had. I wanna watch it again & read the book, time permitting. It was worth it. Definitely waiting for the dvd too:)
